ANTaR are hosting National Close the Gap day 2019 and is a campaign for Indigenous Health Equality. The Close the Gap campaign is the result of the Australian public’s overwhelming support for improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Why is closing the gap so important?
Most Australians enjoy one of the highest life expectancies of any country in the world but this is not true for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can expect to live at least 10 years fewer than other Australians and experience higher rates of preventable illnesses such as heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes.
ANTaR are campaigning in 2019 for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to have the right to access health care in the location of choice, a healthcare system that responds to health needs and good housing for good health.
